Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Instruction for Authors

1) Title:  Manuscript title should be less than 20 words.
2) Abstract: Abstract should be written as one paragraph and less than 300 words. Abstract should define abbreviations mentioned, avoid reference citations, and not include table or figure mentions.
3) Key words: A maximum of 5 keywords should be provided.
4) Research highlights: Research Highlights are required.  Research Highlights should include 3 to 5) bullet points. Each Highlight should be no more than 85 characters, including spaces. They should be written in complete sentences in proper English without jargon, acronyms, or abbreviations. They should summarize research methodology, findings, and management implications.
5) Graphical abstract:  All data, text and information should be legible when reduced to 1/6th size.  Colors used should have appropriate contrast. Graphical abstract should not be larger than the size of a regular page. Authors should review the pdf file before approving submission.
6) Article structure, subdivision and numbered sections: Authors should divide the article into clearly defined and numbered sections. Subsections should be numbered 1.1 (then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, ...), 1.2, etc. (the abstract is not included in section numbering). Each heading should appear on its own separate line written using lower case.

7) Acronyms: Acronyms should be defined on their first use.

8) Maximum number of figures should be 6 and tables 5. Additional materials can be provided as supplementary materials.

9) Figures: For graphical representations, abscissa and ordinate should be labeled as:  Title (unit).  Abscissa and ordinate should have tic marks. All print should be legible after 1/4th reduction.  Unnecessary gray background colors should be avoided. Significant digits used should be consistent (e.g., 1.0   1.2   1.3   etc.   Not as:  1   1.2    1.3). The % sign should be used as a unit not as title of the abscissa or ordinate. It should not appear twice in the graphics (as unit and next to the numbers). The legend for the graphics (i.e., data depicted by squares, circles, etc.) should be placed inside the figure frame if possible.
10) Bar charts:  Using 3D bar charts should be avoided if 3D does not add any additional information or clarity.
11) Micrographs: Micrographs should have a scale bar and legible scale.
12) Maps/satellite images:  All maps/satellite images should have a measure of scale (e.g. scale bar), north arrow (or directional grid), and a legend and all print should be legible after 1/4th size reduction.
13)   Tables: Footnotes should be provided using lowercase letters at the bottom of the tables. Use of gray scale, bold and italic letters should be avoided if possible. Long tables can be provided as supplementary materials. Each column should have a heading and headings should include units as appropriate as:  Title (unit).
14)  Equations should be numbered as follows:
A= B+ D                                                    
15)    In text citations: Citation within the text portion of the manuscript should be as follows:
One author:  (Smith, 2019)
Or:       Smith (2019) conducted experiments ….
Two authors: (Johnson and Smith, 2019)
Or:  Johnson and Smith (2019) reported ….
Multiple authors:  (Smith et al., 2019)
Or:  Smith et al. (2019) compared ….
16)  References: The reference list should be prepared according to the author guidelines provided at the journal web site.  Please note that journal names should be abbreviated according to the ISI format. Volume numbers should be removed as appropriate. Abbreviated words should have a period. Author names should be spelled out (et al. should not be used).  The authors should carefully check the accuracy of the references and ensure that they are prepared according to the AJES style requirements before resubmitting. Authors should also refer to more recent literature. Please carefully review the author guidelines. Please do not number the references. References should be arranged first alphabetically and then further sorted chronologically if necessary. More than one reference from the same author(s) in the same year must be identified by the letters 'a', 'b', 'c', etc., placed after the year of publication.

17)    Appendix/Supplementary Materials:  Appendix should be provided as “Supplementary Materials”. The Supplementary Materials sections should be placed after the references.  Note that Supplementary Materials is a separate section from the manuscript and it will not be published in print form. It will be available online. Manuscript should be complete without the supplementary materials.
18) Acknowledgments: Authors should provide the grant number(s) and the name of supported foundation items correctly for identification purposes.
19)  Line numbers: Line numbers are automatically added by the system. Authors should review the pdf file before approving submission.
20)    Manuscript length: Full length articles should be less than 8000 words.  Short communications should be less than 3500 words.  Literature review manuscript should be less than 20000 words.
21)    Literature review manuscripts: The review should provide detailed comparative analyses and in depth analysis and review of recent literature, compiled data from numerous sources, and detailed analyses compiled in the form of tables and figures with appropriate citations to the literature.
22)    Submitting revisions: When submitting the revised manuscript:

  1. Provide a "Response to reviewers" document in which a detailed response to each comment/question received is included and the related changes made to the text are clearly reported.
  2.  All points raised by the reviewers should be addressed.
  3.  The revised text should be highlighted (red colour) in the manuscript.

Publication Fee
Asian Journal of Environmental Studies (AJES) is published privately; therefore, charges for posting articles on website, web charges and payment to computer operator are made from the funds collected by paper handling charges and even the remaining charges are paid by the Editor-in-Chief. Journal is not financially supported by any organization or through subscription. The journal publication fee is USD $100 for international authors and PKR 30,000 for Pakistani authors. The charges for local students will be PKR 20,000 (if first author or corresponding author is an enrolled student in any Pakistani university chartered with HEC, Pakistan). All payments must be provided through Western Union (for foreign authors). However, currently no fee will be charged until June 2024.
